Creating equal access to sound. For everyone. Everywhere.

To all of our customers, friends, and those in the wider hearing loss community

Like you all, we have watched closely over the past weeks as the seriousness of the Coronavirus outbreak has become more apparent. It is now obvious to us all that Covid-19 will impact our lives and those of our families in ways that we won’t have experienced before. As government advice started to change earlier this week, here at OTOjOY we’ve given ourselves some time to think about the most appropriate response for our business. After careful consideration the position we are taking is one that we believe is in the best interest of our society as a whole:

OTOjOY installs hearing loop infrastructure into buildings of all shapes and sizes that already have public address systems. First and foremost, our hearts go out to all of our customers who operate places of worship, movie theaters, performing arts venues, conference centers and the multitude of spaces that exist because of our very human need to socialize with each other. The necessary social distancing now in place will impact their businesses much more than ours, and at this difficult time we are thinking of them all.

Hearing loop installations postponed until further notice

Some of our customers have contacted us to ask if we can take advantage of the closure of these spaces to install our infrastructure during this period. At first glance this seems like a sensible choice, but on reflection we feel that it is our civic duty to play our part in keeping society safe. On a typical hearing loop installation, we call on the support of flooring contractors, electricians, and audio/video integrators that work in the venues themselves. We are often coordinating with general contractors, their teams, venue staff, and others to ensure that the work we do is completed to the highest possible standard, delivering an assistive listening system that will last. There are too many human touch points in our business for us to consider it safe to pursue installations at this time, and therefore, until further notice, we are postponing our installation schedule.

To ensure that OTOjOY can remain the leading provider of hearing loop systems long into the future, we have taken the difficult decision to eliminate from our costs anything that is not mission critical at this point. We understand that this will have an impact on the marketing, legal, operational and other third-party teams that we rely on to deliver our solutions, and we hope that they will all understand that our decision is not taken lightly. Like you, we look forward to the day that our communities are safe enough again for us to resume activities.

Hearing aid battery delivery to keep your loved ones safe and included

This does not mean that OTOjOY is going dark completely. Some of you might already be aware that OTOjOY has been running a hearing aid battery subscription project for several years, 5 Buck Chuck Club. To combat the frustration of having to remember to keep up a constant supply of batteries for your hearing aids, OTOjOY mails them to you, once or twice a month, just like clockwork to make sure that you never run out. Especially now that nobody should be visiting any stores unless absolutely unavoidable, particularly those considered vulnerable, we will be increasing our efforts to deliver hearing aid batteries to as many people that need them as possible. Two 6-packs of hearing aid batteries are $5 per month. Sign up and you’re done:

At least that’s one less thing to worry about!

From all of us here at OTOjOY: Stay healthy, stay home! Look after each other.
